HONEY

While your heart may be broken,
Even while the tears keep on falling
A thousand Kisses just landed on your lips.
They are like bees but not stinging
They arouse you laughter because they tickle
They numb the pain and sorrow of yesterday
They gather to lift you up like a honeycomb
They take the goodness you have within and create
They take the wonders of your heart
And they season the honey
They take the substance of your character to
Thicken the honey
They buzz a blessing over the new creation
Then they fly away their work is done
Someone in need of honey comes along,
And finds the prize they have left behind
Only
the honey doesn't even know that it is honey
And how sweet it is.

LOOK, 'HONEY' YOU ARE SWEET, JUST HOLD ON!

WHO DO YOU SEE?

It is so amazing how we look at people, based on what they wear, the level of education, or where they live to determine if we want to be friends with them or even show them respect. I was reminded of this as I went into a corner store the other day. A man, dressed like a homeless person began speaking to me. When I spoke back to him his eyes lit up with joy and he began to smile with radiance. I continued talking to him and he began telling me of his life story. When he finished I was amazed. But he was amazed that I listened and was really delighted. I felt his joy about to explode. He was so surprised that I took the time to listen, I was surprised that he was surprised. He is now homeless and lives in his car, but he was an entertainer and has worked with some of the greats.

Hebrews 13:1-2
  • "Let brotherly love continue.
  • Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares". The word translated for the word angels also translates messengers, of God.
As I left the store, my mind went to Genesis when the three men came to visit Abraham, and how he treated them with such honor.

It is hard to not feel 'above' the rest, when we work so hard, and get our education and see others who seem to do nothing yet always grabbing at what we have worked so hard to obtain so that we can enjoy the comforts of life. We want to be around like minded people who have similar experiences and educational and financial compatibility. But should we look down at those who do not meet our 'standards?' In a city the size of Atlanta, should this have been a new experience for him?

Some of the consequences in life may not be self inflicted. There are people who are mentally ill. There are people who just cannot find their way. There are people who just need a helping hand. There are people who have been torn down by the words and deeds of others and nothing you could ever say will lift them up, just be merciful. Jesus said there will always be poor among us. What was he saying? There is always room for service. Can we not be so high and mighty today? Can we lift someone else up today? Reach out to someone that you have felt 'too good' for. I can tell you that his smile, and the way his eyes lit up, were as beautiful as a baby's smile, and he was an old man 50 - 60 (old compared to a baby that is)
